Beacon Fire on The Great Wall

Synopsis:

The Great Wall is an ancient defense project with the longest construction time and the largest amount of engineering in China. It has been built for more than 2,000 years since the Western Zhou Dynasty. It is distributed over vast land in northern and central China, the Ming walls measure 8,850 km. This is made up of actual wall, trenches and natural defensive barriers such as hills and rivers. More important, it was connected by beacon towers.

In ancient times, people used to ignite the fireworks on the top of high platform to transmit important news. Those high platforms called beacon tower. which was an important military defense facility in ancient times. It was built to prevent enemy invasion. When enemy was found, smoke was applied during the day, the night was ignited, the beacon tower was connected, and the news was transmitted.

Objective:

To use graphics, video, and animation to illustrate the phenomenon and relate its history. Audio will provide background music. A 3D model of The Great Wall (a part of) will be built. The beacon tower is going to burn Wolf smoke, one by one, to make a warning.

Target Audience:

It’s anticipated that the audience for this piece would be high school and undergraduate students interested in Chinese history or ancient architecture.
