IACS Student Seminar: Multi-User Route Recommendations In Data Mining

Smart cruising strategies for taxi drivers significantly reduce the traffic pressure for the cities. For single user, we develop new methods to provide real-time search for the optimal route, which reduces the computational time from days to seconds. For multi-user, the direct accumulations of the single user solutions lead to significant increase of the computation time and overlapped recommendations. We develop new parallel methods, which again reduces the time from hours to seconds.

IACS Seminar SpeakerL Doreen Fan, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab

Type Ia Supernovae are of particular interest to the astrophysics community because these explosive events are commonly used as “standard candles” to measure the distances of their host galaxies. The size and brightness of these explosions are believed to be dependent on local flow properties such as density and temperature during the convective phase preceding ignition.
