walking character

It’s time to dust those sneakers off and get moving this spring with Healthier U!

Stony Brook University’s employee health and wellness program, Healthier U offers two walking programs: “Walk on Wednesdays” (WOW) & “Walk to Win” (WTW). Both programs start Wednesday, March 25th, and run through Wednesday, June 10th.

Walk on Wednesdays occurs on Wednesdays at noon at many campus locations. Walk to Win is a team-based competition that allow you to walk anytime, anywhere. Only two people minimum are needed to form a team.

Participants in both walking programs will receive a variety of FREE prizes after only four instances of participation during the fall. The team that walks the greatest number of miles per person through “Walk to Win” will also receive awards following the conclusion of the spring walking season.

For more information and to register for both programs, visit www.stonybrook.edu/healthieru .

Try out a free fitness class with a colleague this spring 2015! Did you know you’re more likely to show up – and keep showing up when done with a friend.  A resolution to exercise won’t do you any good unless you actually get started…and then keep it up, even when your motivation lags. The fact that the others in your class, not to mention your instructor, will notice your absence, usually provides enough of a impetus to get people out the door and into the gym. Having that accountability built in is an ideal way to ensure that you actually keep up with your intention to exercise regularly. (source HU Spring 2015 Fitness ClassesYMCA).

Registration begins Monday 2/9 and will include a free 7 day pass to the Walter J. Hawrys Campus Recreation Center.  Contact healthieru@stonybrook.edu for any questions regarding the free fitness classes.
