Microsoft has released a fix for the vulnerabilities found in Internet Explorer. DoIT’s Client Support department is working to package the fix for mass deployment on University-owned computers.
For personally-owned machines, if you have automatic updates turned on, you won’t need to take any action to get the security patch. If you manually apply Windows Updates, be sure to apply this fix as quickly as possible.

The Department of Homeland Security is advising people to discontinue using all versions of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) Web browser because of a security vulnerability. Until Microsoft releases a patch and your computer has been updated with the fix, please use Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari when visiting websites. If your work requires you to use an application that only runs in Internet Explorer, you may use the IE browser, but please refrain from using it for any Web browsing. Using IE to get to websites outside of the campus is not advisable at this time. Using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari is recommended instead.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the West Campus Client Support Help Desk at (631) 632-9800 or send an email to supportteam@stonybrook.edu
