In the lab my work had primarily focused on work using platelets and attempting to characterize differences in the aggregation response produced after prolonged contact with silicon wafers applied with various diamond coatings. These coatings as applied may have the potential to be utilized as a means of lowering potential adverse response.

Aside from this, I’ve also constructed a small, cartridge loaded unit intended to be utilized in cell culture testing. By utilizing flexible-membrane culture plates coupled with controllable shearing cones, the device enables the researcher to apply a cyclic linear and sheer stress to cultures simultaneously. Using interchangeable inserts, the user may also alter the patterns of linear deformation to suit particular experimental designs.

Future

Going forward, I am working towards conducting flow experiments using mouse blood vessels to examine the effects of differing stress conditions on endothelial response ex-vivo.
