Project Description: This field campaign is part of a larger project studying barrier jets in the Gulf of Alaska. The purposes of the parent project are as follows:
1) document the spatial and frequency climatology and morphology of barrier jets in Alaskan coastal waters
2) Study the dynamics of barrier jets using mesoscale modeling, high resolution synthetic aperture radar wind estimates and in situ measurements
3) Examine the impact of barrier jets on the coastal ocean
4) Transfer knowledge of barrier jets to the operational forecasting community.
