The Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography Fellows program was initiated in 2015 to honor ASLO members who have advanced the aquatic sciences via their exceptional contributions to the benefit of the society and its publications, meetings, and other activities. ASLO, the premier aquatic sciences society, is extremely pleased to announce the inaugural class of Fellows. The commitment and service of these individuals to ASLO have enabled the society to advance the sciences of limnology and oceanography.

The 2015 ASLO Fellows will be honored at the ASLO Meeting in Santa Fe in June 2016.

SoMAS Professors Cindy Lee and Gordon Taylor have been recognized as ASLO Sustaining Fellows for advancing the aquatic sciences via their exceptional contributions to the benefit of ASLO and its publications, meetings, and other activities.

SoMAS Professor Gordon Taylor

Dr. Lee’s research involves the distribution and behavior of biogenic organic compounds in the marine environment, and the role of these compounds in the global carbon cycle.  She retired in September from full-time service after 29 years at Stony Brook University.

Prof. Taylor’s research efforts have mainly focused on microbial mediation of biogeochemical process (particularly carbon cycling), trophic interactions among microorganisms (bacteria, protozoans, algae and viruses), and linking ecological function to specific microbial community members.  He has been at SoMAS since 1990.
