clubThe SoMAS Meteorology Club launched its new Student Forecast webpage on 11 April 2012 (sbwx.blogspot.com). Assembled by Club Secretary Michael Colbert with assistance from the School’s Computer Support Specialist, Mark Lang, the new site has been designed to give people in and around Stony Brook University quick and easy access to accurate, local weather forecasts. These weather forecasts will be put together by students in the Atmospheric Sciences program at SoMAS. The new page offers satellite and radar images of regional and national weather, as well as data on severe weather from the National Weather Service. A Facebook Page has also been created, which will be used as another outlet by which the club will disseminate weather information and interact with the public. This Facebook page will be a place where people can ask questions of Meteorology Club members or send in pictures of the weather they’ve observed. The primary goal of the new website is to make Stony Brook students and faculty more weather-minded, in the hope that more people will gain a better appreciation for the atmosphere that surrounds and affects us.

The Meteorology Club is a registered club of Stony Brook University. In addition to maintaining the web page, club members organize on-campus events and speakers related to meteorology and, when possible, attend scientific meetings held in the region. The club meets Wednesdays at 1:00 pm at SoMAS during the academic year.
