In an innovative approach to coastal research, scientists at Stony Brook University’s Marine Sciences Research Center have installed a first-of-its-kind environmental data monitoring system that will provide ferry passengers, the general public and scientists anywhere in the world with both instant and continuous information about the health of Long Island Sound.

Through a unique partnership between one of the world’s leading oceanographic institutes and the the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, we will the be able to visualize and record the “heartbeat” of Long Island Sound, how it changes from minute to minute and day to day, and how these changes affect New York’s valuable living marine resource.
