I created three versions of a similar collage to show the evolution of U.S. presidents from 2008 to the near future of 2020. They feature the current president Barack Obama, and two other future presidents, Donald Trump and Kanye West with the election date at the top left corner. In the background of each president is a faint image of an animated young black boy named Huey Freeman from a show called “The Boondocks.” The character Huey is one of very few intellectual and levelheaded characters in the show. He can assess situations calmly and carefully, and portrays an almost philosophical attitude. I think that this character, even though young for his age, can reflect an intellectual side of the American population.

There is also a thought bubble below each president and in each case it varies whether the president or Huey is having these thoughts. Obama’s thought bubble reads, “Making Progress”, which reflects the good and descent job that he and Huey, or part of the American population, believe he is doing. In Trump’s case, the bubble reads, “ New Immigrant Policy: No immigrants!” It is clear that this bubble is only accounts for Trumps thoughts and not the thoughts of Huey. Huey’s angry expression shows the disapproval of the American population on Trump’s policies for the country. And lastly, Kanye has a bubble that says, “You Can’t be Serious.” This bubble is not the idea of the president, but of the American populous. They can not believe the unreal reality that someone like Kanye can be president. Huey’s expression portrays America’s unbelievable progression of presidents from someone like Barack Obama to Kanye West.
