In 2012, The Staller Center for the Arts launched “Orchestra to the Orchestra,” providing free tickets and transportation for local students to attend orchestra performances on campus.
Funded by the Barbara N. Wien Endowment for the Arts, Orchestra to the Orchestra offers young musicians an opportunity to see live orchestral music on the Staller Center stages.
Students from William Floyd High School attend “Spanish Harlem Orchestra.”
The concert series gives the students a new way to appreciate music. The Department of Music often sends a lecturer to the school a week before the students come to campus to talk about the program.
More than 800 middle and high school students from Huntington to Southampton and many schools in between have enjoyed performances from The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and The Spanish Harlem Orchestra on the main stage.
In addition, the students have enjoyed smaller intimate shows in the Recital Hall such as Starry Nights and Colin Carr and Thomas Sauer.
