#2: Blood Drives Save Lives

Earlier this spring, members of the Stony Brook University Student Blood Drive Committee received an award for the most donations in the New York Mets College Blood Championship.

The Blood Drive Committee held events throughout the year,  collecting 1,866 pints, and surpassed last year’s record by 154.

Each pint of blood can help three people in need; the Stony Brook blood drive donations can impact nearly 5,600 people.

The Stony Brook University Student Blood Drive Committee was launched in 2005 with just a few concerned students and today has more than 70 members.

The pre-game ceremony was held at Citi Field and hosted by the New York Blood Center. The annual blood drive challenges colleges and universities  to organize donation drives and raises awareness for the importance of donating blood.
