On a blustery Saturday in the fall, a group of Stony Brook University student volunteers joined community members of the Greening of Rt. 25A Committee to clean up the area around the Stony Brook Long Island Railroad station.
Campus and community came together to improve the grounds surrounding the station house.
The students helped to beautify the area by picking up trash, planting trees and shrubs and pruning overgrown bushes.
Volunteers from the University campus partner with the community each spring and fall for the area clean up. “Students enjoy getting a chance to demonstrate their altruistic nature and shared pride for the surrounding community,” said Emily Snyder, Assistant Director for Commuter Student Services and Off-Campus Living.
The students for this event were from several different clubs including the Alternative Spring Break Outreach, Circle K International, Commuter Assistant Program and Commuter Student Association.
