Logo

The logo is a mark, for the purposes of the assignment, such as we explored in the lecture yesterday. Think about the psychology of shape and color. What story does your mark tell about the agency, service, or product?

Admittedly, I struggled to think of a logo for the band. This is the best I could come up with while also paying homage to their Brook Con Live! logo (without the use of text since the assignment does not allow for that).

This was the original logo:

Gorilla Destiny temporary logo

This logo was almost all text, which made it difficult to incorporate, so I focused on the gorillas instead. In the BCL logo, each member had their own gorilla. I decided to draw two of the masked gorillas to use as a “default” logo, but I had the idea that the gorillas could be changed to different members depending on the context (solo performances, for example).

Since the font used was pixelated, I wanted the entire logo to be pixel art. I drew it entirely by hand, so it came out a bit different from the original gorillas.

With the team members, we decided to try modeling the shape of the logo after the Chinese/Japanese character 命, which means “destiny.” (It can also mean “life,” “command,” and many other things.) I think the gorilla on the right looks like it has a ponytail because of this, which I personally like, but I’m unsure if it causes an issue.

The lines of the triangle are connected to form an upward arrow, upward success being the ideal trajectory of the band. Below are two variants of the logo, which both have the lines separated. The left is a color version, and the right is black and white. The color I chose is red for impact, and it is part of the palette that I made previously. It resembles SBU’s red color (the place where the band is from).

Because the team members are busy with schoolwork, we didn’t decide on a finalized logo before this assignment was due. We intend to continue drafting a logo outside of ISE 333.
