Rationale for Logo:
Used Garamond due to the reasons below
I decided to go with Garamond for the logo because it has that traditional, serif look that felt right for the Buddhist Meditation Club as well as the reasons below. The lotus in the center is a key symbol in both Buddhism and meditation, representing enlightenment. By placing the club’s name around the lotus, I aimed to keep the design simple while giving it meaning. The name of the club stands out, but the lotus subtly reinforces the idea of focus and enlightenment. Did not want to use the entire pictorial logo since there would be too much going on the typographic logo where the focus was the typography. So only used the lotus to add to the typography overall.
The color choice was due to the red and gold on the lettering for the impact result want to have it as focus as well as it being the colors the club uses for their flyers and overall room colors. The colors on the lotus were to create a contrast with the color palette while still not over using a color (green outline for a wholistic theme).
Rationale for Fonts:
Garamond: For Header and Logo – The reason for using Garamond was that I want to use a Serif Font which would still look professional, legible, and timeless at all sizes. I wanted a font which was focused on an older style such as used in Text from centuries ago. Garamond was the perfect font to connect with the traditional aspect of Buddhist Meditation Club, while also being easy to read and stand out as well.
Crimson Pro: Subheaders – The reason for using Crimson Pro was one due to still being a Serif font type, so sticking with the idea of tradition and an older standard. However, I want to create contrast between the headers and subheaders besides font size. So I was trying to find a font that was more rounded since Garamond (sharper edges). While, have a font still be easy to read at all sizes. Out of all the more rounded Serif fonts, Crimson Pro looked the most legible for any character, as well as had the different types I need such as semi bold. The font also overall reaches the goal of creating contrast with the header besides font size.
Petrona: Body and Captions – The reason for using Petrona was due to creating another contrast from the headers and subheaders but still sticking with the Serif fonts since again keeping that traditional aspect of Buddhist Meditation Club. However, I want to try to find a font which looks like how traditional scripture might have been written while still being easy to see. Out of all the fonts, this looked the best overall with all characters and adds to the feeling of the website being focused on being traditional. Since the main focus on the club is Buddhism ideologies.
Overall, used Serif Fonts due to wanting to stick to a traditional theme while still being easy to read and functional. However, want to create some contrast between the different hierarchies of the website while still working well together. Out of all the fonts seen these all worked well together. All fit well with the focus on being clear and traditional in terms of the club’s focus.
