Typography

Design Choice

As we can see in the two typography designs above, they both have slightly different designs while still maintaining the same feel. I decided that since the Asian Students Alliance club is accepting of all ethnicities, that each event hosted should have a slightly different theme. Many companies choose to change their typography design during the holidays, and I thought it would be unique to do the same. For example, in the black and white version, we see a Chinese dragon and a ramen bowl where the a in Alliance should be, which signifies the Chinese New Year event. In the colored version, we see a popular board game in South Korea called Yutnori and some kimbap replacing the same letter as before, which signifies some sort of Korean themed event. I felt that this design choice would keep things fresh and also allow others to easily see what’s happening with ASA in the future.

Color Choice

The primary color I decided to go with was red due to the cultural impact this club has on the Stony Brook Asian community. It is a club dedicated to accepting all types of people and spreading the various cultures and traditions so that more people are educated on it. However, I decided that the color would go hand in hand with the design choice I discussed earlier. For example, for a Korean event, perhaps a white, red, and blue color would be best as those are the colors of the Korean flag.

Font

Montserrat was the font I chose to go with due to its modern look and also the fact that it was easy on the eye. By that, I mean people can easily understand what the club name is and don’t have to spend time deciphering. There is only one font used throughout the whole design, and it is for the headline.
