Rationale

This game is an educational game for college students, specifically at Stony Brook University. It was created by WiCS to help its members (mainly CS majors) take advantage of their university experience and set themselves up for success once they graduate. SBUGuide is a RPG that follows an SBU student throughout their 4 years here. The goal of the game is to get a better understanding of the job market and what actions they can take during college to become a more attractive applicant. Many people come out of high school and are overwhelmed by the new college setting and might not be aware of all the opportunities scattered around campus. Players would be assigned tasks that normal students usually complete like going to class. Along the way there would hidden opportunities that can only be found by interacting with people or the environment. This is supposed to simulate the real world and show that opportunities are everywhere as long as we know to seek them. By unlocking and completing hidden tasks, players would get the points needed to level up. These tasks include going to a job fair, joining a CS club, applying to an internship, participating in a hackathon, attending a resume review event, and so on. Each of these can increase a player’s stats (technical competency, hireability, and soft skills). Everyone begins as a level 1 newbie, but as their understanding of how to improve increases, they can work up to a level 5 job wizard.
