Rationale

I wanted my icons to match the theme of my logo and typography. However, since it is not the most practical to incorporate a bunny head everywhere, I chose to focus on the general feeling instead. It needed to appear friendly and welcoming so I made sure that all of my icons were rounded. Furthermore, since my logotype had sparkles around the bunny and they were quite small and simple, they could easily be added into the icons. However, the sparkle looked too much like a plus so I swapped it with a star. In order for them to appear visually consistent and like a set, I put the star in each icon.

I made 7 icons for each of the 7 pages on the WiCS website. As for the design of each one, I based it off of popular images associated with the name of the page. I then simplified it to its bare shapes so that it looked cleaner and easier to scale up and down. The Home page is just a simple house. The Events page is a calendar. The Awards page is a trophy. The Team page is a group of people. The Sponsors page is a graphic of someone handing something valuable over. The Blog is a pen and paper, and finally, the Gallery page is a polaroid.

I used the grid to make them centered, even, straight, and all the same size. I also alternated between solid and hollowed out shapes so that there was a better balance of positive and negative space.
