Character & Level Design:
The main character is Quin who is an extraterrestrial creature that resembles a mix of duck and flamingo. His family had been abducted during their vacation to Earth and he is set out to rescue all of them before anything “bad” happens to them. The photo above shows Quin’s infamous “rude” face that intimidates many smaller creatures.
The level design above is one example of the land map showing where Quin is located throughout the game and the types of terrain around him for that level. The purple star indicates where one of his family members are for this level. Each level has varying terrain & location of the family members.
Game UI:
This game is meant to be played on tablets/iPads, but may be adapted for phones.
The intended audience is young teens and kids (ages 8-13) though anyone 8+ can play.
Genre/Type of game – First-person shooter
Behind the design – I wanted to make something that had a storyline/purpose but had simple mechanics of moving quick & attacking when needed.
Themes & Evolution – The theme I initially aimed for was simple: kill to win. However, I realized that I wanted to have an interesting character and a small storyline connected to the mechanics of the gameplay. Thus I slightly changed the theme to “rescue your loved ones, but be cautious of the costs to get there.” I also was initially going to have a human as the main character but decided to change it to a unique creature with interesting powers. I feel it gives the game a slight twist from typical FPS games that use rifles and machine guns. I was inspired to use a duck-like creature from recently watching a video online with an old grandma taking her pet duck on a walk.
