Game UI

Background

My game is an RPG independent platformer based on the Star Wars series of movies, and is called Dark Odyssey: A Star Wars Story. The plot of the game is based on the protagonist of the story, either Jacob or Clare. The protagonist of the story can be chosen by the user only once in the beginning, and the other character becomes part of the story narrative that the user experiences. The plot shows the protagonist, initially a leader among the Siths and an admirer of the Sith lord Darth Vader, starts to question their own choices and allegiance among the group. Feeling betrayed, the Sith’s don’t take kindly to the protagonists doubts and wages war against him/her. The protagonist must survive and dismantle the evil empire by going on quests, exploring new areas and characters.

The game is geared toward both Star Wars lovers of old, as well as people curious about the series. The gameplay and mechanics will give almost any user a well-deserved introduction to the series.

To give you an idea of the game, here is the splash title screen.

Title Screen

The title screen features the two characters which can be playable in the game, along with their spaceships on the side. They are standing on a rocky terrain with a bright space background, and the title on placed on top. The user will have options to [start] the game, change settings by going to [Options], visiting the [Store] to buy more downloadable content for the game, and an exit button.

Space Battle

The game will also feature a spaceship called the Patriot, which the protagonist will be able to control to travel between worlds. The spaceship is equipped with gun turrets and laser cannons which can be fired at enemies. Here is the UI for a space battle in the Patriot Spaceship.

Space Battle scenario

The player will be able to fly the spaceship in 3rd person POV. The Patriot spaceship UI features a health and force-field bar, which show the health and outer force-field of the ship that is remaining. It has an objective shown on the top left, which tells the user what to do, along with an icon of the objective to follow. A square silhouette will be around a nearby enemy when the Patriot has locked on to the target, and can fire homing missiles. There is also a mini-map on the bottom left corner, showing the player icon as an orange arrow, the path to the objective, the objective icon as above, and any nearby characters such as enemies.

Fight Scene

The following is a fight scene between a demon and Clare, a protagonist in the game. The fight is taking place on a red planet. On the screen, we can see Clare in the 3rd person POV, facing a demon.

Fighting a demon

The UI contains an objective like before, telling the user what to do. It contains a user health bar indicating the health, and instead of the force-field bar (which measured the shield level of the spaceship) there is now a Force bar, which shows how much Force Clare has remaining. The enemy demon also has a health bar, indicating how much health remains of the demon. The minimal is similar to before, except for a square shape than a circular, and the map now shows the terrain of the planet that the player is in.
