Typography Graphic and Type Guidelines
I ended up creating two different typography designs; similar to the icons.
Design 1 Color
Design 1 Black and White
Rationale: When designing these graphics my first priority was to tie it back to the icon I had created. I used the same color palette, as I want it to convey the same message as my icon. For this graphic, I used a pencil rather than a paintbrush, as I thought the linear shape would complement the straight text better than a curved paintbrush. I used a handwriting font, as it follows the art-based theme. I wanted a font that was more bold and free-form than the conventional cursive handwriting fonts; I also wanted one that would resemble pencil, rather than a smooth pen stroke. The final detail that I added was the “Portfolio” on the pencil. I didn’t want to “mix fonts”, but the handwriting font looked strange on the pencil, so I settled on a more plain font – something that would resemble the text on pencils.
Design 2 Color
Design 2 B&W
Rationale
Similar to the first iteration of the design, I legibility was my top priority, so I used a bold, thick font for my name. I chose a similar cartoonish font, as I thought the friendly, free-form look would match well with the work in my portfolio. I created this design because I feel that the paint bucket/paint match better with the original icon than the pencil. I also wanted to experiment with a design that was more curvy, as I thought it would help to convey the tone of the font better.
