Design Rationale

Trivia Trails is a game designed for a teen audience to answer trivia questions related to different cities and countries, so I made the buttons, pop-out text boxes, and other typography bright, colorful, and appear 3D. After pressing “Start” on the Start Screen, the user would be able to select a region to play in. When a region is selected, they would see the Select Level Screen, which allows them to select a type of trivia quiz, such as Landmarks, Pop Culture, and Fun Facts. To make the game more immersive, the user would be represented by a character on screen (denoted with the diamond on top of the character), and they would be able to move around the region (in this case, New York City). This allows them to explore the region while learning about the region in these quizzes. If they need hints that will help them on the quizzes, they can speak to the other NPCs on the screen. These characters were developed in the MakeHuman application. When the user’s character moves towards a signpost denoting a type of trivia quiz, they would be redirected to a screen similar to the Level Screen, where they can answer questions about the topic they selected. There is a 3D-appearing progress bar so the user is aware of how many questions they have left.
