Project Description

Project Title: Try Again, Fail Again

Author: Anna Zhang (anna.zhang.2@stonybrook.edu)

Synopsis: The field of technology is heavily male-dominated, and oftentimes, women can feel discouraged due to a variety of reasons.

This animation will feature a girl who cannot get her code to compile and is on the brink of giving up.

Hopper is the mascot of Women in Computer Science (WiCS) at Stony Brook University, created by Cynthia Lee. They will hop out of the girl’s computer screen and skateboards around her desk, attempting to do tricks. There will be an uplifting song with lyrics focusing on individuality and determination. In the middle, Hopper will fail the skateboarding trick (kickflip), but they stand back up and finish the performance.

In the end, the girl decides to continue working on her code with a smile on her face.

Objective: To utilize animation to illustrate the settings, interactions between Hopper and the girl, as well as telling the story stated above as a way to help encourage women to pursue their dreams no matter what.

Audience: The audience will be females who want to try coding but feel discouraged.
