Title: Apollo 13: The Unexpected Odyssey

Brief synopsis:
The Apollo 13 mission, launched in April 1970, aimed to be the third mission to land humans on the Moon. This project will focus on the launch of the Saturn V rocket and its key design features. It will also provide an overview of the Apollo 13 mission, known as the “successful failure” due to an oxygen tank explosion that turned a lunar landing into a fight for survival. The project will highlight how the crew and ground control worked together to overcome life-threatening challenges and safely return the astronauts to Earth

Audience: Middle school and high school students interested in space exploration, science, and history. Drawing from personal experience writing papers on the Apollo 13 mission during middle and high school, this project is designed to serve as an educational tool that introduces younger audiences to one of NASA’s most infamous space missions

Objective: To use animations, images, and audio narration to illustrate the Saturn V rocket’s design and the events of the Apollo 13 mission, highlighting the launch and the challenges faced during the “successful failure” that brought the crew safely back to Earth.
