The title screen is relatively simple but does carry symbolism without giving away much of the story.
First, the silhouette is that of Anubis looking over Egypt holding the sekhem-scepter. The pyramids also scream Egypt but in addition to giving the setting, pyramids were also built as the tombs of pharaohs, who must also have been judged by Anubis during their passage to the afterlife. The Nile River can be seen in the bottom, presumably from an observer on a reed boat.
The title text is a modification of the previously-used labelling using a calligraphic font to symbolize “old”, but also is inspired by Hieratic, the script variety of hieroglyphics, and Demotic, used during the late period of Egyptian history. Under the title is “Anubis” written in hieroglyphs.
