Synthetic Reality:

Rationale:
My goal was to create an image that resonated with my childhood memories of the street food night market in Hong Kong.
First, I used Adobe Photoshop to mask myself from the original image (right). Then, I placed this layer over an Adobe Stock image of Hong Kong’s night market (left). I played around with some of the Adjustment Presets on Photoshop, and found Portraits – Darker and Creative – Color Pop made the image more convincing while maintaining the iconic neon colors.
I added a mask of one of my favorite desserts, shaved ice, to fill in the original empty bowl. To fit the original 0.5 lens perspective, I distorted the image and played around with the Adjustment Brush Tool and blending effects. Finally, I increased the brightness on my face to refocus the subject.
