Title:
Backrooms
Synopsis:
The “Backrooms” is a popular urban legend about an endless, liminal space filled with monotonous, uncanny rooms. People who “noclip” out of reality find themselves trapped in this eerie, uninhabited environment with no clear escape. The spaces resemble a never-ending, off-kilter version of familiar places like office buildings or basements, evoking both familiarity.
In this animation, a lone character accidentally enters a strange space. The surroundings are unsettling—old, mismatched office desks and cracked tiles line the floor. The fluorescent lights above hum faintly, casting unnatural shadows. After making a complete circuit of the space, they come across a heavy door. Upon pushing it open, they are met with a dark, spiraling staircase that seems to descend infinitely into the void.
Objective:
The goal of this animation is to create a tense and immersive atmosphere by blending elements of psychological horror and surrealism. Therefore, the video will use empty office spaces and a dark, endless staircase—to evoke feelings of isolation, fear, and confusion. Lighting and sound will play a key role in building suspense, with minimalistic sound effects, such as distant echoes and subtle creaks.
Audience:
This piece is intended for an audience that enjoys psychological horror and surreal narratives.
