Tracking Glucose
There are two most commonly used solutions to track blood glucose levels:
- Glucometers
- Continuous Glucose Monitors, CGMs
The most traditional method of the two is with the use of glucometers AKA the finger-prick method.
-Blood made in contact with a testing strip, and the blood glucose is displayed on the glucometer. This reading helps gage the amount of glucose to inject. [11]
-this is inconvenient with multiple tests a day and is expensive due to the equipment [13]
-Blood must be taken during times of exercise, meals, sleep, etc. any time blood glucose can change greatly [12].
CGM
As the name implies, the CGM tracks the diabetics’ blood glucose levels continuously throughout the day to get the most accurate reading.
CGMs contain a sensor that is inserted into the fatty portion of the skin that collects data and the transmitter that sends data wirelessly to apps [14].
CGMs are highly popular as diabetics have more freedom in completing and enjoying everyday tasks
