INTRODUCTION

We were interested in studying the differences between authentic Chinese food and American Chinese food, and the impact of American Chinese food on those who have never tried the more authentic flavor. Our group followed through with this study by researching on the origin and characteristics of both traditional and Americanized Chinese food. We also looked into the places that offered Chinese food on and near Stony Brook campus, and interviewed, a handful of people, on their Chinese food preferences. Considering the fact that the creation of American Chinese cuisine was due to the difference in the American palate, our hypothesis was that Americans would prefer American Chinese food over authentic Chinese food. However, our research proved us wrong, and we also learned many new things about the influence of Chinese food on the American society.
