Dadaocheng Presbyterian Church
– Built in 1915 on land donated by Li Chun Sheng
– He was raised Christian and worked for British tea traders
– First to export Taiwanese tea. Exported to NY in 1869
– studied Western missions in Xiamen. This could be seen in the red brick facades, Western style gables and studs and the Western and Chinese motifs
– almost demolished to be replaced but stopped by preservation committee. New structure built near it instead
The Light of Christ Salvation Church
– modern urban styled church in Taichung City
– separated into three parallel bays. One for congregation, one for vertical circulation, one as a central glass atrium connecting both wings with seven different bridges
-cuts and turns in architecture to provide natural illumination
– has Eastern element of a koi pond.
Luce Memorial Chapel
-on campus of Tunghai University in Taichung City
-designed by artist Chen Chi-Kwan in 1963.
-Also in collaboration with I.M Pei, most famous Chinese born architect of 20th century.
-Named after reverend henry luce, American missionary who came to china in late 19th century.
