Abstract

In this project, our group was working on finding the best tissue engineering solution to the frequent type of injury – rupture of the Achilles tendon.  Finding a way to increase the effectiveness of current treatment is important because it will help patients to recover faster which is often essential for professional athletes. In order to find the best solution, our group has inspected current common treatment methods and less common ones that are still being tested in laboratories. We figured out that the most optimal method to create the implant tissue would be scaffolding with the usage of mesenchymal stem cells, since the organized matrix significantly reduces the chance of re-rupture, and the multipotent ability of mesenchymal cells will help the scaffold to differentiate into living tissue.
