The hypnagogic state, a.k.a. N1, is the stage between wakefulness and deep sleep (REM), which enhances creative thinking and problem-solving. Various historical figures used this; Thomas Edison, Salvador Dalí, and Albert Einstein. Today, scientists have researched this stage for practical use. My project is an abstract representation of one tapping into the hypnagogic state. The subject is sleeping on a stool, holding an object in their hand. Once their object falls on the ground, the individual will wake up. As they awaken, they will maintain the hypnagogic state’s boosted creativity for a brief duration.
