Short Assignment: Tagua Nut

Tagua nuts are products made from the endosperm of the seeds of palm trees. Endosperm is the part of the seed that surrounds the embryo, providing it nutrients via starch. Tagua nuts grow in clusters in the forests of Ecuador and other countries in South America. A tagua palm tree takes 15 years to produce its nuts. Once ripe, they fall to the floor. Many believe that tagua nuts bring abundance, happiness, love and prosperity. Tagua nuts offer emotional and spiritual well being. Last century, tagua nuts were used to make buttons. Nowadays, tagua nuts are a great eco-friendly alternative for plastic. Tagua nuts are called different names around the world: palm ivory, steennoot (Dutch), steinnus (German), and binroji (Japanese). When sanded down tagua nuts reveal unique patterns. When submerged in water cracks and crevices are unveiled.
