John Bohorquez, Ph.D. Student with the Dvarskas Lab, was awarded this year with the J.R. Schubel Fellowship. The award is presented to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding commitment and effectiveness in translating science to the public, using science to inform policy, and serving as “ambassadors” to the school’s mission. The award is a recognition of John’s academic achievements, as well as the importance of his research in environmental economics and marine protected areas towards both social and environmental causes. He will receive $3,000 to support his work in addition to his name being engraved on a plaque in the lobby of the school building.
The J.R. Schubel Fellowship is named in honor of the former Dean and Director of Stony Brook’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Jerry Schubel.
