Final Project: Prosopagnosia

FriEnds, 2022, Marker on Wood, 5×5

Prosopagnosia is also known as face blindness. This is an impairment in the recognition of facial identity. People have trouble recognizing faces they have seen before, even if they spend most of their life together. So a lot of the time they can not tell people apart. Instead of relying on facial features to tell apart humans they use details outside of it like hair, clothing/accessories and voice.

I wanted to portray this condition so I created 4 pieces of work for my friends. All of these pieces were done on a 5×5 wooden board with markers. I do not have facial prosopagnosia, I thought of doing this and adding my own personal touch to it. The figures I drew are of my friends and they are all from the same job we work together, but they are leaving the job for school. So, I decided to draw how I would remember them by.

Yellow frame was the first one to welcome me to our mutual job. He has curly hair and facial hair. He also likes plants and likes to make terrarium plants which is why I decided to incorporate that in the background.

Blue frame is an old soul who is so kind. He wears round glasses and also has a little swoosh in his hair why he styles it. He likes tea very much, which is why I decided to place a pot of tea being poured in a cup and also random leaves. He also was the one who got me back into drinking tea.

Red frame is the guy who trained me at our mutual job, he was the best trainer I had and I ended up becoming a trainer like him. He usually has a mustache and some facial hair. He is also a very much bug boy, he loves and admires them so much, which is why I drew some bugs.

Green frame is a friend of mine that has a big impact on me. He wears blue circular glasses. He also follows the same religion as I do, Islam. Meeting him helped me get closer to my religion which I am so thankful for. All of these people, such kind hearted, sweet souls that I met and will not forget.
