This week was my first week of shadowing, and although it’s only been a week, I think I have made my decision on what I want to do, if and when, I pass the internship class. In the beginning I wasn’t sure what the responsibilities and duties of Site Manager or Help Desk were, but now that I have got a glimpse of what the position entitles, I think Site Manager would be a better fit for me. After learning about most of the differences between Site Manager and Help Desk, I feel more inclined to become a Site Manager after shadowing Victoria. I learned a lot of hands on skills necessary to become a good Site Manager and I got to experience what it’s like to be working behind the desk at Main. As for Help Desk, most of the time you are working independently with occasional interactions with staff, students, or faculty. Personally, I enjoy working in environments that are loud and chaotic. I like being around a lot of people because it makes me feel at ease (a little weird I know). Being alone in a room behind a desk with a phone is one of the last places I would ever imagine myself to be, but if I were to be placed as Help Desk, I guess I’ll just have to go with it and make it work.

Today in class Chris Cheung, an Instructional Technologist, gave us a presentation on how to give a good presentation. He taught us the appropriate ways to carry ourselves before, throughout, and after a presentation. He also taught us how important structure and layout is on paper to the person who is viewing it. He gave us an overview of the layout for workshop forms and allowed us to experiment with it ourselves. I never knew there was so much thought put into workshops and presentations, but I definitely see myself using his tips sometime soon and in the future as well.
