The current cost for a person to receive an arterial blood line is costly. For a patient in a hospital an arterial blood line could be used for patents that often need blood gas testing and or accurate blood pressure readings. According to “Circulation: cardiovascular quality and outcomes,” it costs about $15.55 per minute to set up the arterial line (Mitchell et. al, 2012). It then costs about $1.75 per minute the patient is on the line. So, depending on the time spent on the line the patient could see at least the cost of setting up the arterial line which is about $108.85 dollars, and for every minute they are on the arterial line they pay $1.75 (Mitchell et. al, 2012). If something minor goes wrong, it could add hundreds of dollars, and if something serious happens, it could add thousands of dollars. This is costly to the patient however compared to other hospital procedures it is relatively affordable for patients with less socio-economic wealth than others (Burenko).
