Why nursing…

I grew up having to help my parents schedule doctor appointments and translate paperwork for them. I was never annoyed or bothered by doing such things, in fact it felt good being able to help them out and help them understand what they were being asked to do. Throughout the years, the passion to help and provide care for other people has grown and it has led me to study to become a registered nurse. Jean Watson once said, “caring is the essence of being a nurse.” I think that this is true because in order to become any kind of  nurse, whether it is being a LPN, a CNA or a RN, one must be caring and have the motivation to provide proper care to others. I work in a podiatry office as a front desk receptionist and I have been able to experience what it’s like helping patients with their treatment and it feels good to be able to help these patients get the care that they need from the doctors to help them feel better.

Nursing is not an easy career to get into because it requires students to work hard and have dedication. In addition, most school’s’ nursing programs are very competitive and difficult to get into. However, despite how challenging nursing is, nursing is a field that offers good benefits and salary to their employers. The benefits include things like insurance, retirement plan, sick days, family leave, and childcare. I do think that this career will help me achieve all the financial and social status that I have envisioned for the future because with a nursing degree I will always have a job, since it is a field that won’t come to an end in the future because people will always need medical care. In addition, being a registered nurse can guarantee jobs in many different places such as hospitals, emergency rooms, public health clinics, schools, home health care and even law firms. Nurses can also travel and provide care to different parts of the world. Nursing can be considered as a growing field because nurses can upgrade to a higher degree or change the field that they are working in.

Evidently, I think I will be happy pursuing nursing as my future career because I would be doing something that I really enjoy doing. I actually would look forward to waking up every morning and going to work. This career would also be capable of helping me make an impact on society because I would be able to work with doctors to help people feel better and even help save lives, which is something that I think would make anyone feel happy and proud.
