About me

Hi! I’m Andy and I’m currently a first-year M.S./Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in Medical Physics at Stony Brook University. During my undergraduate career, which I also went to Stony Brook for and completed in May of 2016, I discovered my passion for medical imaging after taking an introductory course in Bioimaging my sophomore year. After that, I spent two years doing research on psychological disorders (Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression Disorder, etc.) using PET and MRI imaging techniques, during which time I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in academics and research. I chose to stay at Stony Brook, which became a second home to me, for my Ph.D. after getting accepted into the program. My current research is focused on uncovering basic neurology and the mechanisms behind neurological disorders (Alzheimers, Multiple Sclerosis, etc.) using a variety of MRI techniques, including resting-state functional MRI and Diffusion-Weighted Imaging.

Outside of school work and research, I like to stay active by working out, running, swimming and playing basketball. In addition to playing sports, I love to watch them as well, especially baseball, basketball, football and hockey. I also have a deep interest in music performance and composition, so I’ll write music and/or play my saxophone or guitar from time to time.
