Musical Hallucinations
For Musical Hallucinations, 2023 , I was inspired by research from Dr. Oliver Sacks’ Musicophilia. Specifically, I took a look at the chapter about Musical Hallucinations. These are auditory hallucinations that often times occur to lack of auditory input, but can occur for other reasons as well. Dr. Sacks mentions many patients who have experienced these hallucinations, and write about the similarities and differences between each patient. Using these stories, I created a video to represent pieces of the research. This includes using a record player, featuring musical artists such as Frank Sinatra, Glen Campbell, and Bobbie Gentry. Using abstract imagery and different sounds, I try to convey the varying symptoms of musical hallucinations. Some individuals mention the repetitive nature, distortion, pairing of tinnitus of these hallucinations. And Ultimately whether they accept the musical hallucinations as a part of them.
