Jorge A. Fernandez Torres is a curator, art critic, professor at the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana, Director of the National Fine Arts Museum of Cuba, and the Havana Biennial. He is a former director of the Wifredo Lam Center of Contemporary Art, member of the Commission for Cuban Cultural Development of UNESCO, and the Advisory Council for the Arts on the National Library of Cuba. He curated and authored exhibition publications including: “Art Practices and Social Imageries” for the 2012 Havana Biennial, “Polaridad Complementaria: Recent Works from Cuba” (Havana), and “El Lugar Construido” (Spain). Jorge A. Fernandez Torres will be speaking about contemporary art in Cuba today, and present artists and projects he experienced while staging the Havana Biennial.
Do you know anything about art brought into the United States about 5 years ago. Two large paintings about 4 x 5 feet…history of the mail across the US ? iF YOU OR ONE OF YOUR ARTISTS CAN SEND PICTURES OF THESE PAINTINGS WE WILL HOLD THEM FOR YOU. I believe they could have been painted by the head of the Havana University Art Department at that time. Please let me know if you find anything about the paintings. I showed them in my gallery for two years…in McAllen Texas and now we have moved to Florida and the paintings are being held in McAllen by a fellow artist. Thanks Karen Norberg 941-623-3720
