Circling back to the beginning of the semester, I have decided to explore the realm of prosthetics, combining both art and biology in this project, and create a mechanical hand using materials that are obtainable easily. This mechanical hand will simulate how the hand moves as the strings and rubber bands help to symbolize the muscles and tendons in the human body. Although this mechanical hand does not allow for wrist and proper thumb movements, it is still a good prototype to see how the human hand works and recreate the hand in such a way that may assist in the creation of prosthetics.

Materials:

  • Cardboard
  • String
  • Rubber Bands
  • Toothpicks
  • A pen/marker
  • Tape
  • Hot glue gun + Hot glue sticks
