Stephen Nash
Luci Betti Nash

For this field trip, we began in our classroom. Stephen Nash and Luci Betti Nash came to our classroom in the Staller Art Center to give a presentation on their work. In their presentation, they talked about their background and how they got to where they are, and also the different types of art that involve biology, along with the discussion of AI in the art industry currently.

After the presentation, students took the trip to the health science building, where the class got to explore the “anatomical museum”. In this museum, tons of skeletons showcase different species of animals. Ranging from birds to mammals such as hogs and wolves, to our closest relatives, the monkeys and apes, the number of skulls and skeletons varied. One of my favorite skeletons in the museum is probably the sloth, since it was very surprising how big they were, and which parts of their body were made purely of bone. Another surprising thing was probably the ratio between bones and actual muscles and skin. Many of the bones were from animals that you would think were pretty big however, the bones for that animal are quite small, which means that there must’ve been a lot of skin, tendons, and muscles that would fill out the animal. Some of the pictures from the field trip are shown below:
