“Tenebrosity and Human Nature” series
For my final project, I explored tenebrosity of silhouettes and shadows of living things. “Tenebrosity” is referred to the “the quality of being dark or shadowy.” After researching portraits by Vivian Maier, I was inspired by her use of shadow, particularly in how she presents herself through silhouettes. I explored this in the portraiture project and here in this self-defined project, I delve into a new experimentation of shadow. Shadows will always follow every living object when the sun falls and the moon shines. I was drawn to the idea of shadows of nature that are layered on more nature or manmade creations. Tenebrosity shows the intrinsic relationship between human and nature through shadow.
