Welcome to my page!
I’m Austin, a first year graduate student at Stony Brook University. I am working towards my M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, which I hope to complete in December of 2020. Feel free to navigate through my resume and research experience on the right-hand side of the page.
I completed my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 2018 at Binghamton University and worked within the biopharmaceutical industry for a year after graduating before returning for my master’s at Stony Brook. I was able to pick up many skills, both practical and personal, until I decided that returning for my master’s would be the best choice for my career. Growing up close to the campus, I frequently visited Stony Brook (usually to use their basketball courts) and know the surrounding area very well. My first semester as a graduate student has been the most stimulating semester as a student, from gathering my first bit of research experience to lecturing an upper level undergraduate course from my own created material. I was even able to witness two surgeries: carpal tunnel release and femoral fracture repair.
My greatest academic accomplishment thus far was my senior design project at Binghamton, where my team and I developed a child-sized, customized “jumperoo” for a young girl with cerebral palsy. The jumperoo was bifunctional in the sense that it acted as a rehabilitative device to improve her core and leg strength to hopefully be able to independently walk one day, and as a fun activity for her as the baby-sized jumperoos available commercially was her favorite toy as a child. This awesome project was made even better by learning to MIG weld the entire structure! You can see a photo of the jumperoo on this page.
In my free time you can usually find me at a local basketball court, fishing, hiking, or sitting with a craft beer watching my Red Sox or Russell Westbrook taking the court. I’ve also recently taken up birding, something I’d never admit to my younger self.
I hope you enjoy my page, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
