Final Project

Research
To prepare for this project I used Lens Scratch to get visual inspiration. The first artist I looked at was Rina Shapira. I was interested in her work because of the way she integrates people and landscapes. The people that appear in the images of her The Ghosts of 395 series appear blurry, and I wanted to copy that because I felt like it made sense in relation to the song I wanted to depict for this project.
The second artist I looked at was Laura Stevens. When thinking about what kind of photos I wanted to take for this project, I wanted to include people. I didn’t do a lot of that this semester. When I saw Steven’s work I thought it would be a good reference for capturing people in a narrative way.
Final
For this project I chose to visualize “Roses” by Avery Tucker & Harmony Tividad. I always felt like the lyrics evoked a narrative and vivid imagery, and that I could relate to the story and feeling of the song. I thought about using the lyrics for the narrative project, but decided against it, so I wanted to use it for the final project. I interpret the story as being about someone who feels stuck because making decisions feel like too much pressure.

He stole roses for his hair
Because anything he bought
Was too serious of a thought
Stuff it
Walk these purple sheets
Create the vague you need
Then get married in the seams
Come lay on top of me
It’s a tug of war
With his dreaming and the floor
