I chose these two photos by Sue Abramson because I love the sharpness of the roots and bulbs. I'm also very fascinated by photographing the aspects of nature that almost seem alien. I look at these bulbs and roots, especially out of context with the black background, taken out from the Earth, and see something that doesn't feel native to Earth, even though they obviously are. I get more of this sense of "other worldly" from the first image since there no speck of green to help ground the person's eye, but I also appreciate there is green in the second image with a tinge of pink. Almost reminds me of a threat- "I look normal, but something about me is not quite right," something you might see with animals who avoid insects with bright colors.
