Losing a lower limb is a life changing tragedy. This large change alters the way people work in their day to day lives but the best way to make them ready to function similarly to how they used to be is rehabilitation.
“Rehabilitation should begin 5 days post-surgery” (Caine). Being sure people are able to walk with their new prosthetic is very important and helping them strengthen their muscles around that area so they can support themselves is crucial (Caine).
While rehabilitation is considered the best way to learn how to properly move after having to get a lower limb prosthetic it is extremely time consuming and can be painful. This limitation causes an issue for some people who end up not followingthrough with their rehabilitation and struggle to interact with the world around them due to their loss of a limb.
