Treatment and Therapies

  • Beta Blockers
    1. Propranolol
      – Antihypertensive
      – Decrease cardiac output
      – Anasthetic-like membrane action
    2. Nadolol
      – Atrioventricular conduction decreases
  • Pace maker/ICD
    1. Pacemakers can regulate and shorten QT intervals in individuals with LQT.
    2. ICD implants sense abnormal heart rhythms and adjust them accordingly by inducing defibrillation shocks towards the heart.
  • Stellectomy
    1. Removal of a portion of the stellate ganglion.

  • Increase potassium intake
    1.  Increase in potassium ion concentration can counteract the loss of function of potassium channels.
