Sleep Project
My project is titled Sleepless, and it is a self-reflexive drawing that is about the nighttime. Each color that I chose is complementary to colors that I predominantly saw during the daytime. This was done to play with the idea that our retinas invert the colors we perceive, and then it switches back to the original color for our brains to understand it. The purpose of changing the colors of my drawing is so that subconsciously we are perceiving this drawing in a different way than our conscious minds. I strictly worked on this drawing late at night while feeling the energy of the night around me and being tired. With the atmosphere of stress, sleeplessness, and the sound of the wind, my drawing is a mixture of different emotions and energies. My media used is soft pastels on mixed media paper, which is 18 x 24.”
